Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, USA. He was the eighth of ten children in a working-class African American family. Jackson showed an early interest in music and began performing with his brothers in a group called The Jackson 5.
The Jackson 5 signed with Motown Records in 1969, and their first four singles all reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Jackson quickly became the lead vocalist and standout performer of the group, and his musical talent and stage presence were evident from an early age.
In 1971, Jackson began a solo career alongside his work with The Jackson 5. He released his first solo album, "Got to Be There," in 1972, which included the hit single of the same name. Over the next several years, Jackson released several successful solo albums and established himself as a pop icon.
In 1982, Jackson released his breakthrough album, "Thriller," which became the best-selling album of all time, with over 110 million copies sold worldwide. The album included hit singles such as "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and the title track "Thriller," and its music videos helped popularize the medium.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Jackson continued to release successful albums and singles, and his music videos continued to push the boundaries of the medium. He also became known for his elaborate stage shows and iconic dance moves, including the moonwalk.
However, Jackson's personal life became increasingly troubled in the 1990s, and he faced numerous allegations of child sexual abuse. In 2005, he was acquitted of criminal charges related to the allegations, but the controversy continued to overshadow his career.
Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50, due to cardiac arrest. His death was a shock to fans around the world, and his legacy as a pop icon and cultural icon continues to live on.
