The Supreme Court refused to consider the petition of gangster Abu Salem.

Gangster Abu Salem has suffered a major setback. The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to consider the plea of gangster Abu Salem, claiming that his extradition was illegal and that the extradition has been canceled due to a breach of conditions by Indian authorities. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde has asked Abu Salem to move the Bombay High Court with his petition.

The bench of the Supreme Court said that we dismiss the petition with the freedom to approach the High Court under Article-32.

The petition sought to direct the transfer of Abu Salem from Taloja Jail to Tihad Jail, so that the amicus curiae could talk to her and obtain some documents. The petition filed on behalf of Abu Salem argued that the Indian authorities had violated the extradition treaty.

Abu Salem, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast, was extradited from Portugal to India on 11 November 2005 after a lengthy legal battle. Gangster Abu Salem is serving a life sentence in prison after being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. The attack killed 257 people and injured 713 people. He was sentenced by a Delhi court to seven years rigorous imprisonment in 2002 extortion cases.
